Our History
Dr. Ken Hubbard and his wife, Dr. Doris Hubbard moved to Central Alberta in 1978, opened the Cedarwood Veterinary Hospital in Red Deer and lived on an acreage on the outskirts of Blackfalds. Since then Dr. Hubbard has witnessed the Town of Blackfalds grow in population from approximately 1,000 in 1978 to over 10,000 today. As Dr. Hubbard expanded the number of Veterinary Hospitals in Red Deer, he had a dream to one day open a full-service Veterinary Hospital in the Town of Blackfalds. This dream was realized in 2013 with the opening of the Blackfalds Veterinary Hospital. While Dr. Hubbard is essentially retired from day to day practice, his daughter-in-law Dr. Lisa Loewen and several long-standing employees continue the commitment to quality compassionate Veterinary care. Dr. Wendy Hudson and Dr. Lydia du Toit have joined the expanded team of Animal Health Technologists, Client Care specialists and Kennel attendants.
